Reading for a Record!

Thank you to everyone who participated in youth services event, Read for the Record (, sponsored by the Jumpstart organization, where children across the globe read Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar on the same day, October 8, 2009, in order to break a world record for the largest shared reading experience.

This is our first year working with Jumpstart in helping to promote awareness for at-risk preschool children. The program addresses the importance of literacy, social, and emotional skills so that every child can enter school prepared to learn!

This year our library district helped set the world record with other cities across the country. HDPL read to a total of 117 participants!! Great Job and many thanks to all of our parents, teachers, librarians, and teen volunteers!
